bernard · shop
A shop for your pots, and the money goes straight to you
One-off pieces, made-to-order sets, mugs in three glazes and a book to download, all in one shop on your own site. Buyers pay through Stripe, the money lands in your own account, and bernard sends the receipt and tells you what to post. You ask Bernard in your own words, and every change waits for your approval.
Nothing has been sold here. This is a demonstration. The eight pots in the shop are real products on bernard, but the pots are not real and checkout is a Stripe test. There are no orders. For course and membership prices, see the Pricing page.
The shop · built for you
Tell Bernard what you make, and the shop builds itself
Tracy describes a pot, adds a photo and a price, and Bernard makes the product page. The shop page, a page for each collection and the basket all follow by themselves, in the site's own look.
- On this site
- 8 products in 4 collections: one-off pieces, tableware, seconds and downloads.
- Collections
- A product can sit in more than one collection, and each collection gets its own page.
- Order
- Put the best pieces first, and every page and feed follows.
Add a new product: a celadon serving platter, £85, one of one. Put it in one-off pieces at the top of the shop.
- A product can be hidden, or taken down and kept for later.
- Nothing goes on sale until you publish.

Stock · four ways to count
From one of one to made to order
Every pot is a little different, so the shop counts stock in four ways. Tracy picks one for each product.
| Way | What happens | On this site |
|---|---|---|
| One of one | Sold once, then it shows as sold. | Moorland Moon Jar |
| Made to order | Never runs out. The page says how long it takes to make. | Dinner Set for Four |
| A real count | The number goes down with each sale, and the page can say how many are left. | Ash-Glazed Teapot |
| In or out | Simply in stock or sold out, switched by you. | The other pots |
I have made three more teapots. Put the count up to five.
- Mark a product sold out, or back in stock, with one sentence.
- A "was" price shows the old price crossed out, for seconds and sales.
Options · size and glaze
One product, many sizes and glazes, each with its own price
Nesting Bowls come in three sizes and three glazes: nine choices on one page. The small bowl is £16 and the large is £32. One large glaze has sold out, so a buyer cannot choose it, and the other eight stay on sale.
- Choices
- Up to three kinds of option, such as size, glaze and handle.
- Each choice
- Can have its own price and its own stock.
The large tenmoku bowl has sold out. Mark just that one sold out, and leave the rest on sale.

Downloads · sold like any other product
Sell a file, and bernard delivers it
The Glaze Recipe Book is a PDF. When someone buys it, their receipt carries a personal download link. Nobody pays postage on it.
- Link
- Personal to the buyer. By default it works 5 times in 30 days. You can change both.
- Stored
- Privately. The file has no public address that could be shared.
- Size
- Up to 200 MB.
- If you refund the buyer, their link stops working.
Postage · one rule
One postage price, and free over a total you choose
Every order in this shop pays £6.50 postage, and orders over £75 post free. That nudges a buyer to add a second mug.
Charge £6.50 postage, and make it free for orders over £75.
- Downloads and courses never pay postage.
- Buyers can be in 18 countries, including the UK, Ireland, most of western Europe, the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
Checkout · Stripe
A basket, then Stripe's own checkout
A buyer can press Buy now, or add pots to the basket and pay for them together. Payment happens on Stripe's own secure checkout, so card details never touch the site.
- Up to 20 lines in one order.
- A discount code goes in under "Have a discount code?". One code per order.
- Each shop charges in one currency.
- The price is checked again at checkout, so nobody can change it in their browser.
Getting paid · your own Stripe account
The money goes to you, and bernard takes no cut
Tracy connects her own Stripe account once. Every payment lands there. bernard never holds the money and takes nothing from a sale; Stripe charges its usual fee.
Why can't people buy from my shop yet?
- Until Stripe is connected, products show as "opening soon". You can build the whole shop first.
- If Stripe asks for more details, Bernard tells you exactly what it is waiting for.
After a sale
The receipt goes, and you know what to post
- At onceThe buyer's receiptOrder number, what they bought, the total, and any download links.
- At onceYour order noticeAn email to you with what to make or post.
- When you mark it postedIt's on the wayAn email to the buyer.
- Every order is in your list of orders.
- The buyer becomes a contact, with their choice about marketing email kept.
- Refunds are made in your Stripe account. bernard then marks the order refunded.
Moving a shop
Bring a Shopify shop across
Bernard reads a Shopify shop's public product list: titles, options, "was" prices and collections. Everything arrives as a draft to check. The pictures are copied onto your own site, so the old shop can close, and the old product links keep working.
- Stock counts do not come across, so imported products start as simply in or out of stock.
- Shopify only for now.
Search
Found by Google and by AI assistants
Every product page tells search engines and AI assistants, in their own format, what the product is, what it costs and whether it is in stock. The shop also publishes a list of all its products for AI assistants to read.
Honest limits
What bernard cannot do yet
- Postage by zone or by weight. Today there is one price per order.
- Working out VAT or sales tax. bernard is not the seller; you are.
- Accounts for buyers. Checkout needs no account.
- Subscriptions for products, bookings, or reminders for a basket left behind.
- Product reviews.
- Charging in the buyer's own currency.
- A payment provider other than Stripe.
